This page sets out how guides on Merlin Budapest are researched, written, dated and corrected. It applies to every post on the site.
How a guide gets written
- We start from the question a reader actually typed, and answer that one question. One guide, one task.
- Steps are written against the current app, with buttons named exactly as they appear on screen.
- Where Android, iPhone and desktop differ, each platform gets its own steps rather than a vague instruction that fits none of them.
- The answer goes at the top. Background, caveats and edge cases go below it.
Accuracy and testing
Facebook changes its interface frequently and rolls features out unevenly by country, account age and app version. That means two things: we state when a guide was last checked, and we say when a feature may not appear for everyone. We never claim to have tested something we haven’t, and we don’t describe a screen that no longer exists.
Where an instruction depends on Facebook’s own policy — account deletion windows, data downloads, age limits — we link to Facebook’s official help page as the authoritative source. Their page wins over ours if the two disagree.
Dates
Every guide shows a published date, and an updated date when it has been revised. We update a guide when the steps change, not to refresh the date. A cosmetic edit does not earn a new date.
Corrections
If a guide is wrong, we fix it and say so. Report an error through the Report a problem link at the bottom of any page or via the Contact page. Error reports are treated as fact-check triggers: we re-verify the steps against the live app before editing, rather than patching from memory. Substantive corrections are noted on the guide itself.
Independence and advertising
Merlin Budapest is independent and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Meta Platforms, Inc. Product names are used only to describe the software the guides explain. We do not accept payment to review a product favourably, and we do not publish sponsored posts disguised as guides. Where the site carries advertising, ads are labelled and sold through third-party networks that have no say in what we write.
